  At first I thought his was a nice place in a good area. I really wanted to move in there. The leasing agents seemed candid, at first. Don’t let this fool you, if you have a dog on the breed discrimination list (aka “vicious” breeds”). As soon as the staff met my dog, they were like, “She is so friendly. She is so cute.” All that changed once they asked me if she was a pit. Then their tone changed. “We don’t allow pits.” And I’m confused because they were praising her her on how sweet she was. So then I told them, “Look, she’s an emotional support animal. (FYI, my anxiety and depression is so severe and is dibilitating that is impactful on my daily life. I have chosen to stay off prescription drugs due to the harmful side affects which is why I choose to have a comfort animal) Do you allow that?” They then said, “Let me check with my district manager.” Honestly, this is information they should know. “Sorry. They won’t be back until the beginning of next week,” they said. So I patiently waited, and then they said, “Yes we do accept emotional support animals.” So I put in my application, only to be rejected two days later, which I don’t understand and here’s why. My income is 3 times more than the monthly rent, I explained to them I would be able to pay a years worth of rent of upfront, I gave them my most current pay stubs, and I explained I am even able to give them a list of reference to vouch for how sweet and well behaved my dog is. And at the time my credit was in the 680s, which is considered to be about average/good credit. And they rejected me because I have “low credit”. I’m like, “Okay. Do you accept co signers?” And they said that they don’t. 1) They never told me what their accepting credit rate was (not that they were required to), but 680’s IS NOT BAD CREDIT. 2) 3) I have never paid rent late in my life. 4) I have never heard of an apartment complex not accepting a co-signer. I had wasted my time with these people and had to jump through hoops just to be rejected because my average/good credit wasn’t in the 800s!?! And this isn’t even a luxury complex. I don’t have any evidence, however, based on the information in front of you, it is my belief that they would have denied my application all because my dog is a pit and they used my credit as an excuse. The only way I can prove this is the case if I have a friend with a similar or lower credit submit a similar application with an acceptable dog breed. If this is the case, then Trevor Run apartments is guilty of discriminating against someone with a disability.
